ROMAN GUEVARA
Devotional Reading

"When you are disappointed"

Psalm 147:1-7
Praise the Lord

How
good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to
praise him! The Lord builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the exiles of
Israel.

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

He
determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great
is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit. The
Lord sustains the humble but casts the wicked to the ground.

Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; make music to our God on the harp.

Disappointment.

The other day as I as watching my brother rehearse for his band, i heard him practicing "old" worship songs of the "90s".

Yes,
the "90s". I can’t believe it either…im calling the "90s" "old".
That was our era. That was our time.  And we had a lot of favourite
songs during that season.

Yun yung panahon na wala pa rin
kaming masyadong composed na sariling worship songs. Kaya we borrowed
from Integrity, Vineyard, Maranatha, and later Hillsongs.

Songs like This is the Day, I love to be in your presence, and How good it is.

Yung kantang "How good it is" galing sa verse natin for today.

Edi, kumanta! Mag worship, mag praise ke God.

Sabi
nga ng verse natin for today "for he heals the brokenhearted, binding
up their wounds, it is good to give praise to his holy name."

Pag

disappointments. I’ve been in the ministry for 15 years, kaya, ganon na

Ano gagawin natin pag nadisappoint? Magmukmok? Maggrumble? Maging negative? Maasar? Magalit?

When you are disappointed, make music to God, sing a song of praise, worship Him.

Make this your prayer for today:

Lord
God Almighty, you are worthy of all my praise and worship. I come to
you Lord today in all humility, seeking your forgiveness for my sins
and asking you Lord right now to wash me and cleanse me with the
precious blood of Jesus Christ. Help me Lord to overcome
disappointments. Help me Lord to forgive those who have disappointed
me. Help me to recover from the pain, hurts, and wounds caused by
disappointments. I ask you now that you would enable me to look at the
brighter side of things. And to be thankful to you for all that you
have done for my life irregardless of the challenges i am facing daily.
Teach me to praise you. Teach me to worship you, always. In the name of
the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, in Jesus name, amen.

ROMAN GUEVARA Devotional Reading “3 Verses”

ROMAN GUEVARA
Devotional Reading

"3 Verses"

Luke 6:38
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

I got a text from one of my musicians one day asking about verses in the bible concerning giving.  Specifically, he was asking about the subject matter of tithing and the giving of your firstfruits.

Now i thought he wasn’t all that serious. And as a result, I actually ignored his text message. Would you believe that? A Pastor ignoring an inquiry into tithing?

Well, it turned out that he was very serious. He texted me again (3) days after, and so i decided to text him back  with  verses concerning giving.

I already shared to you (1) verse concerning this matter. I’d like to share (2) more verses, those i gave my musician.

Concerning Tithing,

Malachi 3:8-12
"Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. "But you ask, ‘How do we rob you?’ "In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse–the whole nation of you–because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that here may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the Lord Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit, " says the Lord Almighty. "Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land," says the Lord Almighty.

Concerning Firstfruits,

Exodus 23:19a
Bring the best of the firstfruits of  your soil to the house of the Lord your God.

May the Lord speak wisdom to your heart as you meditate on his words.

Make this your prayer for today:

Dear God, i thank for this day. I thank you for the blessings, i thank you for the challenges. I thank you for your Words, for your Spirit that guides me in all of them. I thank you for the comfort, I thank you even for the correction. Teach me Lord concerning giving, concerning tithing, concerning firstfruits. You are the best teacher and to you I listen, I hear, I obey. Forgive me for my sins, my shortcomings, and my disobedience. Help me to faithfully follow your ways. In Jesus name, amen.

ROMAN GUEVARA Devotional Reading “Kamusta Ka Na?”

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

ROMAN GUEVARA
Devotional Reading

"Kamusta Ka Na?"

Ecclesiastes 5:19-20
Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work–this is a gift of God. He seldom reflects on the days of his life, because God keeps him occupied with gladness of heart.

Kamusta ka na?

Every now and then we are asked by this.

To many, it’s a genuine and sincere expression of concern.

Pero some are truthful enough to really say  how they are.

"Malungkot." "Medjo problematic." "Depressed."  "Tired."

The reality is, ang gusto naman talaga nating maisagot sa tanong na yan ay, that we are unbelievably "Happy and fulfilled."

Which brings me to my point.

Why do people ask the question "Kamusta Ka Na?"

And why is it na parang ang hirap buuin ang tamang sagot sa tanong na ito, e, alam na naman nating itatanong yan lagi?

Because of it’s about the pursuit of happiness and fulfillment.

Lahat ng tao habol yan. But do we all get it? Lahat ba happy? Lahat ba fulfilled?

E pano nga ba nagiging happy at fulfilled?

Pag me pera?

Pag me sariling bahay at lupa? Pag me Kotse? Pag nabibili ang gustong damit at sapatos? Pag me alahas at pabango? Pag nakakakain sa mga mamahaling restaurant? Pag nakakabiyahe sa ibang bansa para mamasyal at mag good time?

O pag me lovelife?

Me kakwentuhan, kayakap, kahalikan, katabi matulog, kasama sa pag gising.

O pag me achievement, charitable work, church ministry, and so on.

We could write a series of books just on this subject.

Papano ba nagiging happy at fulfilled?

Our reading today from the bible says "Enjoyment and Happiness is a gift from God."

We end this devotional kung papano tayo nagsimula. By asking the question,

"Kamusta Ka Na?"

Make this your prayer for today:

Lord help me to discover the right path to happiness and fulfillment. Forgive me for the times that i have mistaken other things as substitutes. Forgive me for the times that i have allowed myself to be deceived by the things of this world. Help me Lord to live a life that depends on you for happiness and fulfillment. I desire this feeling Lord. I want this state of mind and heart. And I know that you are a good and gracious God, ever so willing to grant such desire to us your children. I desire my friends and loved ones to experience joy and peace in their lives as well. I pray and believe to receive all of these things, in Jesus name, amen.

ROMAN GUEVARA Devotional Reading “Bless You”

Monday, January 28th, 2008

ROMAN GUEVARA
Devotional Reading

"Bless You"

1 Peter 3:9
Do
not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing,
because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

Hindi madali maging Christian. It’s not easy to live the Christian life.

At isa sa pinakamahirap gawin e yung to keep your cool even if inis na inis kana.

holiday at marami kang bitbit.   Bukod pa dun, nakakahimatay
mangontrata ng bayad. Dibale sana kung plus 20 o kahit pa nga plus 50
lang. Minsan abusado na talaga. Why? Pano ba naman plus 150 na ang
hinihingi!

E
kaso, it doesn’t end there. What really makes me very angry, e yung

Panu ba yan?

Sometimes
we encounter similar challenges in other encounters. When buying at a
grocery or ordering in a restaurant. Dealings with students, clients,
employees. Even scenarious involving fellow Christians in Church and
Ministry related issues.

Will we control our tongue? Will we speak ill of other people. Will we curse?

I
isa, mentally i would think of very bad things against him. Para bang
im wishing bad things to happen to that person who pisted me off.

I’m amazed at the creativity of my thoughts when im very angry.

However, God does not approve of this behavior.

As
Christians, it is important for us to bless and not to curse.
maling mali. We still should not curse.

Justice should be done
of course. Kaya, we should report to the proper authorities. And
ultimately, let the Lord deal with such a people. Bukas ang kanyang mga
mata. Walang makaliligtas sa kanyang hustisya. "Revenge is mine, says
the Lord".

But as for us, let us try our very best not to repay evil with evil, or insult with insult, but with blessing.

Yes, i agree with you, IT’S SO HARD.

But
let us try this. When someone angers you, just say to that person
"Bless You". When someone is testing your patience, bago pa man tayo

Make this your prayer for today:

Dear
God, thank you LOrd for this wonderful day. I praise you Lord because I
know you will guide me, you will protect me, you will bless me.  I
submit to you Lord my mind, my heart, my soul, my body. My whole being
is yours Lord, do with it as you please. Teach me to be more patient.
Help me to control my tongue. Forgive me for the times that i have
uttered a curse, an insult, and evil word towards people who have
angered me. Touch me Lord that i may learn to truly bless even those
that have brought pain and suffering to my life. I honor you Lord. May
you be glorified even more. In Jesus name, amen.

ROMAN GUEVARA Devotional Reading “The Day God Used Vina Morales”

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

ROMAN GUEVARA
Devotional Reading

"The Day God Used Vina Morales"

Proverbs 15:30
A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones.

A
few hours bago magstart ang worship concert ko sa Timog, i was very
tense. Now I’ve
been doing worship concerts for quite some time. I’ve been doing them
in much bigger venues than the one i was about to do in Timog.

But i was tense. Really, unbelievably tense!

And since i still had about 2 hours before the event call time,  i decided to go to the nearest Salon to have my hair done.

Now i went to the salon for the following reasons.

First, i really needed a hair cut.

Second, i had time to kill.

Third, i thought, maybe a few moments in the Salon could help ease my tension.

ialok nong attendant. Sabi sa akin "e sir what about hair color?", aba
napaoo ako bigla, at sinumalan nila akong lagyan ng hair coloring
treatment.

E matagal tagal yon. I decided to pray while i was waiting.

I
said "Lord im really tense. Iniisip ko kung me aatend. Iniisip ko kung
makakabayad sa concert expense. Hindi ko na nga maisip yung mga kanta
ko sa tension. Forgive me Lord for worrying about so many things. Help
me Lord to get over this."

And you know what happened afterwards?

Vina Morales came in the Salon and gave me the best smile i’ve ever seen in a long time.

Now
You might say, it
was but normal that she would smile at a customer. But then again, that
doesn’t always happen.
customer.

Bukod don, kakapray ko lang. At ang rinequest ko ke God, help me to get over this tension im feeling.

That’s how God used Vina Morales in my life.

I needed that smile. I needed that look. At yun ang ginamit ni Lord to uplift me, to relieve my tension.

Pagkatapos ng aking haircut and hair color, it was straight to the worship concert for me.

What can we gather from this story?

When we are stressed by something, when there is so much tension, pray to God, ask for his help.

What else? Get ready even for extraordinary ways by which God will answer our plea.

Furthermore,
who knows, the tables could be turned. Ikaw naman ang maging VINA
MORALES sa buhay ng ibang tao. Meaning, try to smile more. You might
just save someone’s life with it.

Vina definitely saved mine that day.

Spread it today, smile more!

Make this your prayer for today:

Dear
God, thank you for this day. Thank you that i can begin it meditating
on your words. Teach me Lord to handle stress better. Teach me Lord to
truly surrender to you my worries and fears. Allow me to discover the
right way to handle problems and  challenges in life. Enable me Lord to
smile even when it is so difficult to do so. Use me Lord even to uplift
others with their burdens.  Bless this day Lord with your protection,
guidance, and abundance. In Jesus name, amen.

ROMAN GUEVARA Devotional Reading “I Can Feel”

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

ROMAN GUEVARA
Devotional Reading

"I Can Feel"

Psalm 46:10
"Be still, and know I am God;  I will be exalted among the nations, I will be  exalted  in the earth."

I went to a friends birthday party and started to make conversation with one of his guests.

Yung
She just
arrived from the U.S. and experienced a personal spiritual revival.

As
we were conversing, another guest arrived and began to make
conversation with her. A friend of hers, who can’t seem to understand
what happened to her with this new enthusiasm for God and spirituality.

She
began asking a lot of questions, including, if God really did talk to
her in the US, and how is that possible.  She would later admit, what i
already knew, she was not into this God thing.

Meron siyang kakaibang wall to religion, spirituality, and possibly even God. My heart went out to her.

One of the questions she asked my friend was, "How did you know it was God who was with you in the US."

She
wasn’t asking me, pero God i was tempted to. But in my mind, i said
"the closest reference to understanding what it means to having a
relationship with God, is falling in love."

Does anyone
understand "love"? Can anyone really explain why they are "in love"
with this person? We can try, but honestly all attempts fall short of
academic merit. The point, it’s a relationship. You will know it when
you feel it. When you have experienced it.

The same thing with God.

My
friend Dondon Loyola composed a song for me which i later recorded on
my web album. It’s the song "I Can Feel".  You can listen to this song
when you log on to www.romanguevara.com

I Can Feel
Let your presence touch my heart with your loving kindness
Let your spirit fall upon me hear my voice in saying
I pray for more, more of your glory
More of your power and grace, come move in this place

I can feel your presence Lord
I can feel your presence Lord
I can feel your presence Oh Lord

My
heart goes out to people who for some unique reason find it difficult
to know and feel God. They are struggling with a lot of hindrances to
this wonderful experience.

If you know someone, pray for him.

Tayo naman, e, magpatuloy sa ating relationship with God. It’s not a bed of roses. But it is surely better than a bed of thorns.

Make this your prayer for today:

Glory
to your name Lord Jesus. I thank you dear heavenly Father for this day.
You are indeed a great and mighty God. I honor you and i worship you in
spirit and in truth. With all of my heart i praise and adore you. Help
me Lord to know you more. To feel your presence in my life. Help me to
hear your voice even with the noise of this world. Help me Lord to see
your will even in the presence of many options and choices. Help even
my friends and love ones to know Jesus as their personal Lord and
Saviour. Use me Lord to bring honor to your name. Bless this day Lord,
in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, amen.

ROMAN GUEVARA Devotional Reading “Ikaw Lamang”

ROMAN GUEVARA
Devotional Reading

"Ikaw Lamang"

Jeremiah 1:4-8
The word of the Lord came to me saying, "Before I formed you in the womb i knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." "Ah, Sovereign Lord," I said "I do not know how to speak; I am only a child." But the Lord said to me, "Do not say, ‘I am a only a child.’ You must go to everyone i send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the Lord.

Have you ever been discouraged?

Has anyone belittled you in the past?

Do you know someone na di na down ng ibang tao?

I know someone. Well, ME!

Naranasan ko ng madiscourage as young as i can remember.

When i was like 6 years old, i remember there was a relative who said to my face that i was ugly. When i was 8 years old, there was a teacher who said i was bobo.  When i was a teenager, my youth leader said to the girl i was courting then, na kung wala na ring ibang lalaki sa church e mas mabuti na lang na wag na lang siyang magboyfriend.  When i became a youth leader myself, and i felt like organizing a national conference for the youth, a Pastor who i respected very much, simply said to me, i can’t do it, it just can’t be done.  When i became a Pastor myself, a well known preacher in the Christian community did everything he could to destroy me.

What can i say, im a discouragement magnet?

Wag naman sana.  Pero, totoo lahat ng nabanggit ko. Wala jang exaggeration.  They all happened to me.

Siguro, meron sa inyo nakarelate kasi me katulad kayo sa aking karanasan. O, yung iba, baka mas malala pa. Kung hindi mo naman naranasang i down ng iba, e, congratz? Well, good for you. Siguro me ibang misyon ang Diyos sayo.

But thanks be to God. Even if others belittle us, walang epekto yon sa magandang plano ng Diyos sa ating buhay.

Tulad ni Jeremiah. Dito sa binasa nating verse, sabi ni Lord ke Jeremiah "Don’t say I am only a child, because i will be with you." That is more than enough to assure you of your success."

Way back in the ’90s, my kuya Rommel composed a song during one of my RISE UP youth conferences in Manila. The song is "Ikaw Lamang". I later recorded this song with him in 2002, and it is now available for FREE on my website www.romanguevara.com, do reflect on the lyrics of the song.

Ikaw Lamang
O Diyos, sa kabutihan mo
Ako’y naririto
Upang magpuri sa iyo
O Diyos, sa kabanalan mo
Nalulugod ako
Buhay ay iaalay ko

Ikaw lamang ang nagtiwala sa akin
O Diyos di kita, bibiguin
Magtatapat sa inyo
Maglilingkod ako
O Diyos kay buti niyo

If others have discouraged you, belittled you, insulted you in the past, forgive and forget about them. There opinion is not important!

What is important is that you know, si Lord, siya ang nagtitiwala sa iyo. Siya ang kakampi mo. Siya ang kasama mo.

Make this your prayer for today:

Lord God in heaven, you are truly the almighty and powerful God. You are worthy to receive the glory, honor and praises that your people give to you. I worship you this day and lift up your name. Thank you Lord because you have reminded me that i am special in your eyes. That i have nothing to fear in this life knowing that you are with me. Help me Lord to believe. Help me Lord to be faithful to you as i believe, and even as i receive blessings from on high. Help me Lord to be a blessing to others who have been maligned by others. Use me Lord to lift up those who have been belittled by others. I commit this day to you Lord, in Jesus name, amen.

ROMAN GUEVARA Devotional Reading “This Generation”

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

ROMAN GUEVARA
Devotional Reading

"This Generation"

Psalm 22:30b
future generations will be told about the Lord.

Heath Ledger is dead at 28.

I woke up one morning and saw on the internet this breaking news. "Famous Australian actor found dead in a New York apartment."

I first saw him on the Mel Gibson film "the Patriot".  Later, i saw him in the movie "A Knight’s Tale. But he became very famous because of the movie "Brokeback Mountain.".

He now joins the list of famous actors who died very young. Somehow for each generation, there is a young actor who dies untimely at the height of their careers.

Rudolph Valentino in the ’20s. James Dean in the ’50s.  River Phoenix in the ’90s. And now Heath Ledger.

Even in Philippine Showbiz we have Alfie Anido who died in the ’80s, and Rico Yan, who died in 2002.

Ang kanilang kamatayan, brings people to reflect on many things. Ako, they remind me, of the importance of sharing God’s word to every generation.

As each generation has their symbols of tragedy, so should each generation, have their messengers of hope.

My brother, Rommel Guevara, wrote the carrier single of my web album "Back to Worship", the song "This Generation". You can listen and download for Free this song at www.romanguevara.com, do reflect on it’s lyrics.

This Generation

This generation belongs to Jesus
This generation belongs to the Lord
This generation belongs to Jesus
This generation belongs to the Lord

Open wide your heart and believe
Open wide your heart and receive

For the one who was and is
And is to come
The holy one the great I am.

Let us desire to become the messengers of hope for our generation.

We may never be as famous as Rudolph Valentino, James Dean, River Phoenix, and Heath Ledger. We may never shock this world because of our death like the way Alfie Anido and Rico Yan did.

But we can become our generations messenger of hope.

Be that messenger. Be the voice of this generation for Jesus.

Let us bring more people to God, and proclaim that THIS GENERATION belongs to Jesus!

Make this your prayer for today:

Dear Heavenly Father, i thank you Lord for today. For the blessings that you give me. I ask of you Lord that you would make clearer to me your words for today. Counsel me with your Holy Spirit. Guide me Lord. Renew my mind. Give the passion and the conviction to be God’s spokesperson for this generation. Use me Lord to bring more people to God. Use me even today to bring one soul to the kingdom. I pray all of these things, in Jesus name. Amen.

ROMAN GUEVARA Devotional Reading “Ikaw Lang”

ROMAN GUEVARA
Devotional Reading

"Ikaw Lang"

2 Corinthians 12:9-10
But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, i delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when i am weak, then i am strong.

"Your grace is sufficient for me."

Come and say that one more time. This time aloud and with conviction. Forget the people around you. Forget where you are. Just say this line one more time with faith and passion.

Say……

"Your grace is sufficient for me".

When i recorded my first christian album in 1999, the song that really stuck to people was the song "Ikaw Lang". He wrote it while he was attending my Worship Leaders Institute.

It’s a beautiful song. You can hear it on my website when you register at www.romanguevara.com, and click web album "Back to Worship".  You can also watch this song on Youtube. Just search ROMAN GUEVARA and R.U. (Rise Up Band) "Ikaw Lang".

Reflect on the lyrics.

Ikaw Lang

Sabi nga sa verse natin for today, these hindrances can be weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, difficulties. They can happen to anyone. They can happen anytime.

But thanks be to God, His grace is sufficient for us to triumph over all forms of hindrances to worshiping God intimately and passionately.

Whatever your circumstance is today, say this line one more time, and truly believe in your heart that God is good.

Say……

"Your grace is sufficient for me"

"Your grace is sufficient for me"

"Your grace is sufficient for me"

Make this your prayer for today:
Dear Jesus, i thank you Lord for you are indeed a good God. You are greater and more powerful than anything in this world. I thank you Lord for your Words. For the truth that is in them. That the truth is, that "Your grace is sufficient for me". I hold on to your words. I believe they are true, and that they are powerful. I surrender to you all of my challenges Lord. Do with me as you will. Bless this day Lord, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, amen.

ROMAN GUEVARA Devotional Reading “Be My Guide”

ROMAN GUEVARA
Devotional Reading

"Be My Guide"

Proverbs 19:21
Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

As young as seven years old, i dreamed of becoming a lawyer, a government official, a politician.

From elementary to high school, i was as active as any student can be.

Leader of this, president of that school organization.

I made myself as busy as possible in all of the organizations in school, thinking so much that they were necessary to prepare me for my future political career.

For my undergraduate degree, i went to San Beda College Mendiola, Manila. I studied Economics, and then later Philosophy. On my fourth year, i was getting ready to enter Law School.

Today, i am a Pastor.

How did that happen?

Well, it wasn’t really quite a surprise to me. Along with my planning for law school, almost simultaneous to that, i was experiencing spiritual encounters. There was a growing desire to know God more and eventually  serve Him.

I became a Pastor even while i was in college. I believe I was 17 years old then. I founded a National Youth Movement that became popular in it’s time as RISE UP Philippines. And for ten years, i was struggling with pursuing my initial plans to go to law school, or continuing my Pastoral Ministry.

In my struggles i prayed to Lord continually. Asking Him to show me the signs. The confirmation, that i am indeed following the better path. The journey to discover my true destiny has been very interesting.

And He answered my prayers, that is for sure. And i eventually accepted my true calling in life, my so called Destiny!

I recorded a song with my friends in the music industry called "Be My Guide". It was written by Allan Silonga and his cousin Joshua Desiderio of Freestyle Band. Before joining Freestyle, Joshua was very active in my ministries.

This song is available for FREE when you log on to my website www.romanguevara.com, register, and go to web album "Back to Worship".

Do meditate on the lyrics of the song. May this song help as many people discover their true calling on this earth.

Be My Guide
As i move along to the path you’ve promised me
There are still broken roads ahead of me
Oh Lord sometimes i doubt about the world i move around
And i ain’t sure if this is still my destiny

Be my guide and lead me to my destiny
Be my guide and take me where you want me be
Be my guide and lead me to my destiny
Be my guide and take me where you want me be

There is nothing wrong to pursue the Law Profession. It just wasn’t for me. I am meant to be who I am today. I am meant to do what i am doing today.

God’s purpose prevailed.

I don’t know your story, but God does. I don’t know your struggles, but i am very sure, God gave you such challenges because He wants to bless your life.

May God’s purpose prevail in all of our lives.

Make this your prayer for today:

Dear Lord Jesus, help me Lord to walk the right path. I have many choices. I hear many voices. But it is you that i want to hear today. Clear my thoughts Lord, renew my mind. Save me even from myself, specially if i am being deceived by the this world. I rebuke all works of darkness, of satan and his demons. I welcome only your Holy Spirit, your counsel, your wisdom, your voice. Be with me today. Be my guide. I offer to you my life and destiny in Jesus name, amen
